Wookybean’s World began as a feeling before it became a book.  The feeling that some of the most important things, belonging, resilience, the courage to be gentle are best understood not through instruction, but through story.

The property where the story is set is real.  The animals are real.  The vast Lincolnshire skies, the hawthorn hedges, the meadow with its wildflowers and long grass shifting from green to gold as summer softens into autumn, all of it real.  What Sam did was listen to what those creatures had to say and write it down.

The book was written to work on two levels at once.  For a child of eight, it is warm, funny and adventurous.  For a reader of eighteen, eighty or a hundred and eight, those same pages carry something deeper, a gentle mirror for everything life has taught them and a quiet reminder that peace is closer than it sometimes seems.
